These properties enable precisely fitted holders that securely fix PCBAs in place whilst allowing for easy removal. Thanks to their high load-bearing capacity and excellent resilience, laminated PE foams are particularly suitable for high-quality reusable packaging and applications involving frequent transport cycles.
ETHAFOAM®
ETHAFOAM® is the preferred choice when PCBAs are heavier or are exposed to particularly high mechanical stresses during transport and logistics. This robust polyethylene foam is characterized by its high shock absorption and compressive strength, reliably protecting products from shocks and vibrations. At the same time, the material retains its shape and maintains its cushioning properties even under repeated stress. As a result, ETHAFOAMis particularly suitable for heavy assemblies, power electronics, or industrial components that require packaging offering long-term, reliable protection and a long service life.
NOPAPLANK®
NOPAPLANK®, a non-cross-linked polyethylene foam, offers a cost-effective solution for numerous industrial packaging applications. The material can be machined with precision and enables the production of custom foam inserts for a wide variety of PCBAs and components. Thanks to its excellent shock-absorbing properties, it reliably protects electronic products from the typical stresses encountered during transport and storage. At the same time, NOPAPLANK® stands out for its light weight and versatility. This makes the material suitable for both single-use packaging and robust reusable packaging when a balance between product protection, functionality, and cost-effectiveness is required.
PUR foams (polyurethane flexible foams)
PU foams are particularly well-suited for ESD foam inserts for PCBAs featuring complex geometries or highly sensitive parts. Thanks to their open-cell structure and high elasticity, they adapt perfectly to various contours and ensure even pressure distribution. This reliably protects sensitive connectors, sensors, and other delicate components from mechanical stress. Depending on the application, NOVAPOR develops custom-fit foam inserts made of antistatic PUR flexible foam or combines different foam grades to ensure both reliable ESD protection and optimal mechanical damping.
Chemically Cross-Linked PE Foams – XPE
The Chemically Cross-Linked PE Foams are used when, in addition to reliable ESD protection, there are also high requirements for precision, durability, and surface quality. Thanks to its fine, closed-cell structure, it enables precisely fitted foam inserts with a high-quality look and feel. Compared to non-cross-linked PE foams, they are characterized by greater dimensional stability and resilience, ensuring they reliably fulfill their protective function even after numerous transport cycles. This makes them particularly suitable for high-quality PCBAs and sophisticated reusable packaging, such as high-strength plug-in foam for IC pins, precisely milled case inserts for sensitive circuit boards, or transport trays.
More than just an ESD bag
PCBAs are often shipped exclusively in antistatic bags. While these provide reliable protection against electrostatic discharge, they offer little protection against shocks, vibrations, or compressive stress.
The highest level of safety is therefore achieved through a combination of various protective measures. The circuit board is first placed in an ESD bag and then secured in a custom-made foam insert. When combined with a sturdy carrying case or shipping container, this creates a comprehensive packaging system that minimizes both electrical and mechanical risks.
